Camilla
During the morning Camilla received another call from the art gallery in Chicago, and when she finished, she booked a flight to Chicago.
She had left Noah in the nursery with Ethan and she wondered how things were going. She went to find them.
Surprisingly he was in the backyard, standing beneath a big oak while Ethan sat in the grass. “What are you doing?”
“I thought he needed to be outside. Does he have a swing?”
“No, he doesn’t. I never thought about a swing.”
“They have baby swings and we can fasten him in and he’ll love it. This tree is perfect. I’ll get one today and put it up. You’ll see. He’ll like to swing and you’ll like having a swing for him.”
“Okay.” She leaned down and handed Ethan the ball that had gotten away from him. Then she looked back at Noah. “I made my flight arrangements for Chicago to see the art-gallery people. They’re really eager to show my paintings and I need to go talk to them. I owe your sister thanks, even though I know she did it to get me away from you.”
He shook his head. “I think she’ll stop. Frankly, I think she wants us together now because of Ethan,” he said and gave Camilla a big smile.
“I know she loves you and she seemed truly thrilled over Ethan.”
“She is,” Noah said, glancing at Ethan, who was now happily pulling out grass. “She wants to keep him sometime and I told her she could.”
“That’s nice, Noah. He has a wonderful family with your family.”
“Good.”
“Now, while I’m shopping for baby furniture, do you want me to get my nanny to take care of Ethan, or would you like to take care of him?” They’d already agreed that Camilla would outfit a nursery for his Dallas condo.
“Let me,” Noah replied. “I’ll get my folks if I have difficulty. I may just stay right here because you’re set up for a baby. I’m glad I’m going to start getting my condo that way.” He pulled out his wallet. “Here’s my credit card.”
She took it and slipped it into her pocket.
“I’ve been thinking,” he said. “Whatever you buy, get two, and we’ll have the second one shipped to the ranch and set up there.”
“You want it all alike?”
“Yes, because Ethan won’t care and I don’t. And it’ll be easier for you. Later when he outgrows the baby stuff, we can do something more original.”
She shook her head. When Ethan outgrew the baby furniture, she would probably not be the one buying furniture on Noah’s behalf. It might be his wife—a thought that she didn’t like to consider.
She looked at Noah standing in the shade, looking up at the tree, his thick black curls in their usual appealing tangle. He was all hard muscles from his head to his feet, handsome, sexy and exciting. She wanted to be in his arms, but that was putting off reality and the problems they needed to solve. Right now those problems seemed monumental and without a happy solution.
